Kranjska Gora: Ski Slopes, Nature and History

The Kranjska Gora ski resort offers 21 ski slopes with varying technical difficulty levels. Winter sports are therefore the main focus, while nature, history and other activities complement the character of the town and the range of offerings in the region.

Nature

Part of Kranjska Gora extends into Triglav National Park. Kranjska Gora also has more than 20 marked hiking and walking trails. Lake Jasna can be reached from the centre of Kranjska Gora via a footpath in just a few minutes; around the lake, visitors can use the footbridges and walking paths.

In the vicinity of Kranjska Gora, the Zelenci nature reserve is classified as a Natura 2000 site. It includes the source of the Sava Dolinka River and the Drni Marshes. A well-maintained forest path and a wooden footbridge lead visitors to Zelenci. In addition to the area itself, a viewing tower offers views of the emerald-green lake and the Ponce Mountains.

History and Culture

Liznjek House was built in the second half of the 17th century and features characteristics of rural Baroque from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Since its renovation in 1983, the building has operated as an ethnological museum.

The road over the Vršič Pass connects Kranjska Gora with Log in Trenta. It was built by Russian prisoners of war during the First World War and is also known as the “Russian Road”. In the vicinity of Kranjska Gora, the Russian Chapel and the grave of a Russian soldier are memorial sites connected with Russian soldiers and the First World War.

Also in the surrounding area, the permanent exhibition at the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana takes visitors through preparations for mountaineering, mountain huts and the ascent of the peaks. After visiting the museum, visitors can solve puzzles and codes, avoid mountain-themed traps and escape to a bivouac.

Experiences

A guided visit to Kekčeva dežela begins in Kranjska Gora and takes visitors to the attraction by special bus. There, the offerings include a ride on the Bedancbus, slides, a high-altitude trail between the treetops and a secret tunnel.

Misija Eliksir is an outdoor escape-room experience in Triglav National Park. The activity comprises 90 minutes of logic and skill-based puzzles, as well as following a map. Participants collect the equipment and the first instructions for this in Kranjska Gora.

Kranjska Gora Bike Park is Slovenia’s oldest mountain bike park, has been operating since 2004 and offers trails for all levels of experience and technical ability across an elevation difference of approximately 300 metres. In the park, the Vitranc 1 four-person chairlift takes visitors to the top of the park; the Brsnina lift serves the Brsnina Trails, which are also suitable for beginners.
