History and Culture
A Roman settlement dating from the 1st to the 4th century has been documented in Hrastnik. The Church of the Mother of God was originally built around 1550.
Rižnarjeva hiša was built in the 18th century for boatmen and ferrymen travelling on the Sava. It was formerly Peklarjeva gostilna. The former coal mine in Hrastnik was of great importance for the development of the region, as it supported rapid industrialisation and the establishment of several factories.
Mlakarjevo stanovanje was declared a local cultural monument on 31 March 2007. Two rooms preserve contemporary objects and furnishings that have been retained and arranged. Muzej Hrastnik is located in a former German school building and has a collection entitled “Lutke, lutkarji in Igračenje”. Outside regular opening hours, the museum can be visited by prior telephone arrangement.

Water and Climbing
The Water Sports Centre in Hrastnik offers tourists organised rafting trips on the Sava. Rafting on the Sava in Hrastnik includes easier and somewhat more demanding sections. The guides explain the route and provide the necessary equipment.
The kayaking offering in Hrastnik includes an adventure with experienced kayakers called “TOPO DUO”, as well as rowing courses. The Pod Škalo climbing site has 44 climbing routes.
Landscape and Trails
Four special Natura 2000 protected areas are identified in the Hrastnik area. Kopitnik is a starting point for hikes to Gore and Kal.
The section of the Pot SREČNO in the municipality of Hrastnik is 9.3 kilometres long. The Pot SREČNO is particularly suitable for curious hikers, open-minded explorers and horse riders. In 2026, part of the Pot SREČNO between Hrastnik and Trbovlje can be traversed through a mine tunnel.
The themed Pot SREČNO tourism hiking trail connects the municipalities of Laško, Hrastnik, Trbovlje and Zagorje ob Savi.
