Culture and History
The first written mention of Bánovce Nad Bebravou as Villa Ben dates back to 1232. In the Middle Ages, the town was a centre of clothmaking, shoemaking and weaving.
The architectural origins of the Church of St. Nicholas the Bishop date back to the first third of the 15th century. The Gothic church stands on a small hill in the northeastern part of the town. It contains a neoclassical altar of St. Nicholas from the late 18th century; its basement contains original crypts.
The former synagogue of Bánovce Nad Bebravou was built in 1862 in the historicist style and is now used as an Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession. The Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1803 in the neoclassical style. In 1929, it received a nativity scene carved by B. Rek from Kutná Hora.
The Ľudovít Štúr Monument was created in 1936 by the academic sculptor Jozef Pospíšil. It is still considered the first and largest Ľudovít Štúr monument in Slovakia. The Janko Jesenský Memorial House commemorates the ten years that the Slovak writer and politician Janko Jesenský lived and worked in Bánovce Nad Bebravou, from 1905 to 1914. The memorial house features a plaque with a bronze bust by the academic sculptor M. Tomášek.
The Ottlýk family manor house in Horné Ozorovce was converted into a small fortress in 1693, with a moat, drawbridge and watchtower. The rectory west of the Church of the Holy Trinity stands on the site of an older rectory that was demolished in 1794. The former rectory originally contained a polychrome Late Gothic wooden relief, considered one of the finest examples of Late Gothic sculpture in Slovakia. The Baroque Marian column next to the Church of the Holy Trinity was erected in 1712.
Swimming Pool and Events
The indoor swimming pool in Bánovce Nad Bebravou has a 38 °C relaxation pool with massage features and a 25-metre swimming pool. It offers the public individual swimming lessons.
The traditional Bánovský jarmok will take place from 16 to 17 October 2026 in the town centre of Bánovce Nad Bebravou. The spring Bánovský jarmok features stalls run by craftspeople and folk producers.
Views and Landscape
The municipal observation tower in Bánovce Nad Bebravou has new information panels about the surrounding mountains, as well as a compass embedded in the floor of the observation tower. At the Bánovce Nad Bebravou reservoir, panels inform visitors about the plants, fungi and animals of the popular local landscape.

In the nearby area, the manor house in Dvorec can be reached from Bánovce Nad Bebravou by a regular bus service. In the wider regional area lies Uhrovský hrad Castle, dating from the 13th century. It is now a ruin and, due to its architecture, is considered one of the most valuable castles in Slovakia.
