Trebichava – Accommodation, Hiking and Local History

Trebichava lies in the Slatinská brázda and combines a distinctive landscape with a rich local history. The area around Trebichava is suitable for hiking. The surrounding area includes mountains ranging from more than 500 to 600 metres in elevation. The natural surroundings also include the Trebichavský potok, a left-bank tributary of the Bebrava.

Nature

The Kňaží stôl nature reserve stretches across the southern part of the area. It is home to numerous medicinal and protected plant species. The easiest access to Kňaží stôl is from Trebichava via a green-marked hiking trail. Mount Kňaží stôl offers views across the entire Bánovská dolina and its wider surroundings. The landscape, route and views are therefore closely interconnected features of the immediate area.

History

The Neoclassical village bell tower of Trebichava, dating from the early 19th century, rises above the village. Its bell was cast in 1874 and is protected as a historic monument. The origins of the village date back further: Trebichava was founded under hereditary leasehold law, and the first written mention dates from 1396. The construction date and monument protection refer to different components of the bell tower, while the foundation and early reference form part of a considerably older local history.

Culture

Another testimony to the more recent history is the memorial plaque commemorating those who fell in the Slovak National Uprising. It was installed in 1946 in the centre of Trebichava, at the former fire station. In 1963, this memorial plaque was declared a national cultural monument. Its location and subsequent designation form part of its documented history.

Local Character

The traditional use of fruit has also been preserved in Trebichava. Traditional fruit-drying kilns are still present today. A fruit-drying kiln approximately one hundred years old has been reconstructed. In the first half of the 20th century, fruit growing and drying fruit in kilns were characteristic of Trebichava. The preserved and reconstructed structures thus stand alongside the village's historic buildings and memorials.
