Accommodation in Šípkov: Karst Trail, Nature and Culture

In Šípkov, the Slatinský kras Nature Trail leads from Krásna Ves via Bukovinská skala, Veľké lúky, Lažtek and Lupenice to a junction above Šípkov and onward to Slatina nad Bebravou.

Hiking

The Slatinský kras Nature Trail passes through karst terrain without surface water or drinking water. Culture

The historical heritage of Šípkov includes Hrádok. Hrádok in Šípkov was dominated by a stone tower with a floor area of 6 × 6 metres. Hrádok Šípkov is one of the fortifications built on the summits of small hills. Hrádok above Šípkov is a ruined castle dating from the 13th to the 14th century.

Traditional folk architecture has also been preserved in Šípkov. This includes typical rural settlement forms known as “houses with height”. The Šípkov belfry has an old Baroque bell from the workshop of the Trnava bell founder Ján Ernest Christelly. The Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross is a Šípkov landmark.

Memorial sites are also part of the village landscape. The memorial near the Lupenica sheepfold commemorates 22 people who were executed in November 1944. A memorial to the victims of the Slovak National Uprising stands to the left of the Šípkov municipal office. Hrádok Šípkov can be reached from Šípkov on foot via a forest path in approximately 5 to 10 minutes; the walk is easy. The Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross stands in the centre of Šípkov, north of the municipal office.
