Nature and Landscape

Klenovec stretches along both banks of the Klenovská Rimava. The Klenovský Vepor National Nature Reserve is located within the cadastral territory of Klenovec.

Klenovský Vepor protects well-preserved original mixed Carpathian forests with primeval forest stands. The significant and well-known hiking route “Rudná magistrála” runs across Klenovský Vepor. Nature and hiking focus on different aspects; you can give both interests separate weight in your personal planning.

Paragliding

Extensive meadows in valleys and on mountain peaks, as well as wooded slopes reaching elevations of up to 1,300 m, create suitable conditions for paragliding. Each year, Klenovec hosts a round of the Slovak Cup series or a Slovak paragliding championship. The elevation figure complements the description of the terrain; courses and competitions represent different organisational reference points.

Culture and History

The Klenovská Rontouka folklore festival was established in 1979. It includes traditional farmsteads with creative workshops for crafts, music, singing and dancing, as well as a traditional folk crafts fair.

Klenovec is home to a Neoclassical Lutheran church with a separate bell tower dating from 1787. Klenovec also has a 20th-century prayer house of the Baptist Brotherhood.

In the 1970s and 1980s, 36 families in Klenovec practised the Guba weaving craft. Ján Fotta remains the only Guba weaver in Klenovec to this day.

Juraj Jánošík was captured in Klenovec by Liptov haiduks in 1713; this event forms part of the local Jánošík tradition. The festival, buildings, weaving craft and Jánošík tradition offer different cultural points of access, which you can combine in different ways depending on your interests.

Regional Speciality

Klenovecký syrec is made from sheep’s milk and bears a protected designation of origin. This speciality adds a distinct culinary aspect to the cultural and craft-related themes.

Accommodation and Getting There

When comparing accommodation in Klenovec, you can consider travel dates, room category and cancellation policies together. The question of whether you would prefer to focus your stay on nature, culture, the regional speciality or paragliding can also provide a personal framework for your choice. You can consider the information provided independently of the themes of the destination: travel dates, room category and cancellation policies organise the accommodation framework, while nature, culture, the regional speciality and paragliding provide different focuses for planning the content of your stay. Road and bus connections are different ways of getting there; your personal planning can determine which option you wish to examine more closely.

Klenovec can be reached via State Road II/526, which connects Hnúšťa with Kokava nad Rimavicou. Several bus connections are available for the journey.
