Dobroč lies in the southwest of the Slovak Ore Mountains, in the valley of a left-bank tributary of the Krivánsky potok. Landscape and local history exist closely side by side here: the Dobročská Valley combines steep slopes strewn with boulders with young and mature deciduous trees. The stream forms small cascades, while the beech forests around Dobroč extend from 400 to 900 m above sea level. In addition to beech, maple, black locust, spruce and rowan also grow here.

Nature
This landscape is crossed by the 10 km-long educational trail Putovanie Dobročskou dolinou, which is classified as moderately difficult. The educational trail comprises three routes: a shorter route in the village and two longer routes through the Dobročská Valley. All routes begin in Dobroč at the cultural centre and follow the stream through the valley. At the same time, all of the trail routes are suitable for cyclists. Several cycle paths are also available around Dobroč, so the choice of routes is not limited to the educational trail.
Paths and Activities
Another local option for physical activity is the multifunctional sports field. It can be used for volleyball and nohejbal. During the winter months, the field is also used for ice skating and hockey. In this way, sports facilities in the village itself complement the routes through the valley.
Culture and History
The fortified church grounds have special access arrangements: the gates are locked, and visits must be arranged with the Evangelical parish office in Dobroč. The Evangelical church contains a late Baroque pulpit dating from 1772. The history of the church grounds dates back to the beginning of the second half of the 15th century. At that time, the Bratríci occupied the area and fortified it with a stone wall containing small loopholes, as well as with a deep ditch.
The first written mention of Dobroč dates from 1393. At that time, the settlement was called Dobrocha. The preserved folk architecture includes 19th-century log houses with thatched hipped roofs. This architectural heritage is complemented by the Polónyiovský dom and the old Evangelical parish house, which illustrate the village’s folk architecture.
Local Life
Dobroč’s annual events calendar includes cultural and social events. These include concerts, sporting events, the felling and erection of the maypole, balls and community days. The village’s public life thus encompasses both recurring cultural occasions and community and sporting events.
