Latky for a Ski Holiday – Ski Resort, Cross-Country Skiing and Ski Hotels

The Látky–Kočanda ski resort has two drag lifts, each approximately 500 metres long. The Látky–Mláky area offers approximately 10 kilometres of cross-country ski trails; they are located five minutes from the village and are also suitable for beginners.

Winter

The Látky–Kočanda ski resort is directly accessible from main road II/526. The access point is 10 to 50 metres from the road, and a free car park with approximately 100 spaces is available. Látky also has a ski slope for summer skiing on belt skis.

Nature

Látky is located on a plateau of the Slovak Ore Mountains. Northeast of Látky lies the Habáňovo Nature Reserve near the Mláky recreation area. The protected area preserves peat meadows and hillside springs and is part of the Natura 2000 network.

Getting Around

Látky is served by SAD bus connections on the Zvolen–Detva–Látky–Kokava nad Rimavicou route. For cyclists, the green cycle route “Circuit around Poľana” passes through Látky between Detvianska Huta and Lom nad Rimavicou.

The yellow cycle route “Source of the Ipeľ” runs via Prameň Ipľa, Vrch Ipľa, Bány, Mlakárske, Do Bánov, the Prašivá saddle, Mláky, Vrchy and Vrch Jazero.

Culture

The brick bell tower in Látky dates from 1804 and contains bells from 1806 and 1903. The Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, dating from 1930, stands in Mláky. Also in Mláky is the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua, which dates from 1856. Objects of folk culture have been preserved in the scattered settlements of Látky.

Local Features

The RD Látky tourist accommodation offers direct sales of organic dairy products made from cow’s and sheep’s milk, including cheese, bryndza and žinčica. Horse riding is available at Ranč pod Bukmi in Látky.
