Szczawnica – Palenica Ski Resort, Trails and Spa Parks

When choosing accommodation in Szczawnica, the Palenica Ski Resort provides a useful reference point: the detachable four-person chairlift is located in the centre near the bus station and reaches the summit of Palenica in about 3 minutes. This is a helpful location reference, but it does not replace checking the exact location of your accommodation. If you want to reach the lower station every day, compare its location with the routes you plan to take.

Palenica Ski Resort: Areas and Runs

The slopes of Szafranówka have beginner areas with three drag lifts. Other facilities include a snowboard channel and a halfpipe. Palenica I is described as a challenging run; Palenica II is a floodlit family route. The different names and facilities help you identify what kind of run you are interested in. They do not mean that all areas are equally suitable for every person or group.

All runs are covered with artificial snow and groomed by machine. Snowmaking and grooming describe different things: snowmaking produces artificial snow, while grooming involves machine-preparing the runs. Hiking Trails with Different Route Details

A short hiking trail, about 2 kilometres long, leads from Szczawnica to Sokolica and includes steep ascents. Promenade and the Dunajec

The promenade along the Grajcarek starts at the lower station of the Palenica lift and runs for about 1,800 m to the connection with the footpath and cycle path along the Dunajec towards Slovakia. The central spa district includes Park Górny, Szczawnica’s oldest spa park. Its creation was initiated by Jan Kutscher in the first half of the 19th century. The park is located around a small mineral-water bottling plant; later landowners expanded it. Józef Szalay added various plant species, as well as paths for walking and relaxation. Park Dolny, in the centre at the foot of Bryjarka, has well-kept paths, lush vegetation, a music pavilion, a pond and a botanical garden. It was created between 1861 and 1868 in connection with the opening of the spa house on Miedziusiu.

On Plac Dietla stands the old Dom nad Zdrojami, dating from 1863, with a drinking hall and the “Stefan” and “Józefina” mineral-water springs. Visitors can also taste water from the “Wanda” spring in Park Dolny. The historic Willa Pałac at Plac Dietla 7 is a residential building.
