The municipality of Vestnes has many varied ski slopes, many of which are also suitable for children and families. At the same time, the fjord, museums and seasonal activities shape the destination. If you are looking for accommodation in Vestnes, you can first consider whether your stay will focus more on skiing or on cultural and outdoor activities.

Ski Slopes and Seasonal Planning

The ski slopes are suitable for recreation and longer training sessions. This offers different ways to spend a day skiing; many slopes are also suitable for children and families. Snow and grooming conditions depend on the season. So take current conditions into account when planning a specific day of skiing.

Fjord Landscape and Outdoor Activities

The settlement of Tomrefjord lies on the eastern side of the nine-kilometre-long Tomrefjord. Mount Rekdalshesten rises 782 metres directly from the fjord. Vikebukt/Gjermundnes has a beach with an outdoor recreation area. Daugstad offers opportunities for activities on the water and in the mountains, as well as hunting and fishing. These places offer different options beyond the ski slopes.

Museums and Building History

The Tresfjord Museum officially opened in 1949. It has a pavilion with panoramic views of the Tresfjord. The museum's open-air farmstead, which dates from the mid-19th century, includes, among other buildings, a smokehouse, a barn, a storehouse, a mill house, a firehouse and a sleeping house. The date refers to the farmstead, not to each individual building. Check current access conditions before visiting.

The Gjermundnes Agricultural Museum is one of three museums in the municipality of Vestnes. The history of boatbuilding is also present locally: the Båtbyggarmuseum in Vestnes led the restoration of the Søblomsten. After its restoration, the ship is intended to sail from its home port as a living cultural monument.

Historic Routes and Traces of the Past

The Trondhjemske postvei runs from Amdam over Ørskogfjellet and down to the centre of Vestnes. On the Vestnes side, it passes through woodland and cultural landscapes, under the E39 and through modern residential areas. Along the historic route, cultural landscapes thus meet present-day development. Stikk UT! also includes a seasonal historic walk along the Postvegen through the centre of Vestnes and alongside Remmemsvatnet.

Another trace of local history is the protected wooden bridge dating from 1844. It is the oldest of the three bridges across the strait to Flatevågen in the settlement of Vestnes. Gapskattfestivalen is a revue festival in Tresfjord. If the festival is important to your travel plans, check the current dates.

Summer Activities in Kråkvika
