The town combines two different ski offerings with historic buildings, hiking trails and activities on the water. This helps you decide which themes matter for your stay, without reducing the different options to a single type of winter holiday.

Slope offerings and their metrics

Voss Resort has 40 kilometres of well-groomed slopes for all ability levels. Myrkdalen Mountain Resort has 22 varied ski slopes and nine lifts. These figures describe different measures: kilometres indicate slope length, while the figures for Myrkdalen count slopes and lifts. They are therefore not a direct ranking of the two offerings.

When comparing the resorts for your trip, pay attention to these different metrics and to which figures are most useful for your planning. Slope and lift infrastructure can change seasonally, so check the conditions for your travel dates.

Getting to and finding your way around Voss

Voss is accessible by train from Bergen and Oslo. Bus and car are also travel options. Voss station is the town's transport hub; check timetables and connections again before your trip.

The Voss Gondol runs year-round from the train and bus station in Voss to Mount Hanguren, which is 820 metres high. The ride takes less than nine minutes. Check the timetable before departure. If you are planning with different mobility needs in mind, the Voss Gondol panoramic path is also worth considering: it is about one kilometre long and designed to be wheelchair accessible. Check the accessibility information again before your visit.

The mountains around Voss also offer a variety of hiking options: routes range from short to long and provide panoramic views of glaciers, fjords, mountain ranges and lakes. Weather and snow conditions affect trail conditions. Take these into account when planning, rather than relying only on the stated trail length or views.

Culture and trails in Voss

Mølstertunet is a historic farmstead with 16 small and large buildings preserved in their original location. Finnesloftet is close to the centre of Voss. Built in 1295, this national monument is considered Norway's oldest non-church wooden building. Both places give the cultural offering a distinct historical focus.

In the town centre, the Cultural Walk leads to statues of historical figures connected to Voss. The Hedleberget cultural trail connects Voss Bryggeri and the slate quarry: the circular route is 2.3 kilometres long and takes about an hour. If you plan to walk these trails, check trail conditions and, for the cultural trail, whether a guided tour is available.

Activities with different conditions

White-water rafting takes place on the Strandaelva or Raundalselva, depending on water levels, and is suitable for all experience levels. A guided SUP tour starts on Lake Vangsvatnet and then continues along the Vosso River. Both activities depend on seasonal conditions. Canyoning on the Raundalselva requires low water levels; the activity includes swimming, climbing and jumping. Whether it takes place also depends on water levels and the operator's schedule.

Ekstremsportveko also brings together a range of interests: the annual festival includes sporting and music events. Check the dates for your travel year. Ski resorts, cultural trails, hikes and water activities therefore have different focuses and conditions. Plan your trip around the options that suit your interests and travel dates.
