Nore Og Uvdal – Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing and Culture
Accommodation in Nore Og Uvdal
Uvdal Skisenter has 25 downhill runs, including steep slopes, a terrain park and long, gently sloping trails. The longest run is 5 kilometres long, and the vertical drop at Uvdal Skisenter is 620 metres. Steep slopes, the park and gentler trails offer a variety of terrain and shape the alpine side of a stay in Nore Og Uvdal.
Skiing and cross-country skiing
There is also a clear reference point for cross-country skiing: Uvdal has 570 kilometres of groomed trails on the mountain plateau and in the valley. This gives visitors a choice between alpine runs and cross-country trails for winter days. Grooming depends on snow and maintenance conditions. If you plan to go cross-country skiing, check the latest conditions before your trip.
Solheimstulen and marked routes
Solheimstulen is a staffed mountain lodge at the foot of Hardangervidda National Park, at the very end of Jønndalen in Uvdal. It is accessible year-round by road from County Road 40. The turnoff is about 13 kilometres north of Uvdal; from there, the road continues for another 14 kilometres to the lodge. Check road and toll conditions, as well as current operating arrangements, before setting out.
Marked summer trails and winter routes lead from Solheimstulen to MĂĄrbu, Rauhelleren, Ă…an and Imingfjell. The routes are distinguished by season, and conditions can vary throughout the year. If a particular route is part of your plans, check the latest trail conditions in advance.
Cycling and cultural trails
The Numedalsruta passes through Uvdal and covers a total of 280 kilometres from Geilo via Kongsberg to Larvik. The 35-kilometre Smådøl section of this cycling route runs from Ånevatn to Rødberg. This is distinct from the 17 cycling routes in the municipality of Nore og Uvdal, which together cover 106 kilometres. The figures therefore refer to the full route, one individual section and the routes within the municipality.
Another marked attraction is the cultural trail in Fauskodammen Cultural Park, which is about 1.6 kilometres long. The cultural trail offers a different focus from the downhill runs and cross-country trails.
Churches and history at Bygdetun
Nore Stave Church is a Numedal-type cruciform church, built around 1167. In Kirkebygda, Uvdal Stave Church stands beside the Nore og Uvdal Bygdetun open-air museum. Bygdetun was established on the site of an old vicarage. The schoolhouse and Prestegardsburet from the former vicarage have been preserved.
At Nore og Uvdal Bygdetun, visitors can take part in activities such as haymaking from 1 June to 31 August. Waffles, coffee and Kling are also sold there; Kling is a traditional local dish. Food offerings may vary by season. If you would like to plan your visit around a particular offering, check the latest visitor information in advance.
The archaeological heritage also includes the Frygne burial ground, with about 30 stone mounds. Eighteen of them are interpreted as burial mounds; one is elongated, while the others are round. This distinction offers a unique historical perspective on the site without categorising all the mounds in the same way.
Wildlife watching, camps and fishing
At Langedrag Nature Park, visitors can see wolves, lynxes, Arctic foxes, wild boars, moose and reindeer up close. The nature park welcomes overnight guests and day visitors all year round. The programme described includes, among other things, riding, climbing, dog, animal and outdoor camps, as well as family camps and camps for grandparents and grandchildren. As the programme may change, check the current activity calendar; you should also confirm the latest visitor and accommodation information before your trip.
Fishing is possible in the Uvdalselva between Fønnebøfjorden and the confluence of the Tøddøla and Jønndøla rivers. Check access and licence requirements before fishing.
