Molveno: Lake Molveno, Pradel and the Brenta Dolomites

Lake and mountain landscape

Lake Molveno covers an area of more than 3 km² and is over 120 metres deep at its deepest point. A natural Alpine lake formed around 4,000 years ago as a result of a massive landslide.

Pradel and mountain trails

A panoramic cable car takes visitors directly from the centre of Molveno to the Pradel high plateau. A high plateau is a relatively flat landform located at a higher elevation. Numerous hikes lead from the Pradel high plateau to typical mountain refuges in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites. The term mountain refuge refers to simple accommodation in the mountains along hiking trails.

Forest Park is located at the mountain station of the La Panoramica cable car and can be reached from Molveno via the Molveno–Pradel section and then along approximately 150 metres of a forest road. Forest Park is connected to Adamello Brenta Nature Park. Forest Park offers treetop courses running between the trees at various heights and levels of difficulty. A treetop course is a facility with elevated paths and stations.

The Brenta Dolomites offer numerous trails and a dense network of routes for via ferratas, trekking, climbing, Nordic walking, trail running, mountain biking and paragliding. Via ferratas are secured routes through rocky terrain. Trekking refers to longer hikes, while Nordic walking, trail running, mountain biking and paragliding are other forms of mountain sport.

Lakeside trail, nature and water

The lakeside circular trail leads to the waterfall near the Ponte Romano, which dates back to the 13th century. A circular trail is designed as a route that returns to its starting point. The Ponte Romano di Mezzolago is located along the present-day lakeside path around the lake.

The Sciury educational trail is an informative and interactive forest walk. Along the Sciury educational trail, you will learn about the squirrel, its natural habitat, its food and the daily challenges it faces to survive. The water park on Molveno beach near the lake includes a 20 × 15-metre adventure pool, water games, waterfalls, slides and an entertainment service.

Chiesa di San Borromeo and historical traces

Chiesa di San Borromeo has a broad, rectangular, single-nave interior with a coffered ceiling. The interior furnishings of Chiesa di San Borromeo were created by Carlo Bonacina. A coffered ceiling consists of regularly arranged recessed panels and shapes the appearance of the church interior.

Segheria Taialacqua features extensive explanatory panels. The panels explain the complex mechanism of its special machine from the 15th or 16th century. In summer, Segheria Taialacqua is opened and put into operation to convey its history and use.

Strada dei Marocchi is known as an ancient Roman road and was restored in 1265. Fortini di Napoleone consists of trenches that were built in August 1703 during the War of the Spanish Succession against the French. Trenches are depressions in the terrain created for military protection.
