Historic centre between alleyways and the Rienz River
The alleyways and buildings of Bruneck’s historic centre preserve its ancient medieval origins almost intact. The historic old town stretches from Oberragen to the Ursuline Church and Tschurtschenthaler Park. The Rienz River flows right through the historic old town. Stadtgasse is lined with colourful medieval town houses as well as shops, restaurants and cafés.
Bruneck Castle and the ECK Museum of Art
The Messner Mountain Museum RIPA is housed in Bruneck Castle. The Messner Mountain Museum RIPA displays equipment belonging to peoples such as the Sherpas, Incas, Tibetans and Mongols, as well as many others. The Messner Mountain Museum RIPA also presents the ways of life of cultures that have lived in and with the mountains for centuries.
The ground floor of the ECK Museum of Art features a permanent exhibition of Late Gothic works by Michael Pacher, Friedrich Pacher, Simon von Taisten and Veit von Taisten. The ECK Museum of Art opened in 1995 in restored and converted former post stables. The ECK Museum of Art focuses on the collection, presentation and academic study of 20th-century graphic art from the region and around the world.
Churches and historic traces
The crypt of the Ursuline Church is the oldest part of the entire monastery complex and dates from around 1410. The Rain Church was built around 1340 by Nikolaus der Stuck of Bruneck. The Rain Church is dedicated to Saint Catherine.
The Forest Cemetery is located on a wooded hill south of Bruneck. The Forest Cemetery contains the remains of hundreds of soldiers from various countries and denominations. The Forest Cemetery was established in 1915 on behalf of the town as a final resting place for the many fallen soldiers of the First World War.
Historic tour and trails along the Rienz River
The Historic Tour through Bruneck begins at the Ursuline Church and leads via the Forest Cemetery to Bruneck Castle – either across a suspension bridge or along Forest Trail No. 22. The Historic Tour through Bruneck leads down from Castle Hill to the Rain Church and into Stadtgasse.
The Puster Valley cycle path and a hiking trail both run along the Rienz promenade. Bruneck’s public transport network has two railway stations and numerous strategically distributed bus stops.
Bruneck and the Kronplatz region
Bruneck is the centre of the Kronplatz region and the main town of the Puster Valley. Bruneck has regular connections to Reischach and Olang. From Reischach and Olang, cable cars lead directly to the summit of Kronplatz.
In the Kronplatz region, many producers sell their products directly from the farm. In the Kronplatz region, visitors can sample the products and meet the producers.
