Nature and Trails

The Sentiero dei larici forms part of the boundary of Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park. It connects the Rüdeferia and Rü farms above San Cassiano in the municipality of Badia. This nature and educational trail is equipped with interactive stations. When planning your own route, the stations can be included as fixed stopping points along the way. Nature enthusiasts can include the Sentiero dei larici in their personal plans as a separate trail alongside the circular hike through the Armentara meadows.

The Sentiero dei larici is particularly suitable for families with children. When navigating the route, the two farms serve as specific reference points above San Cassiano.

The circular hike from Badia through the Armentara meadows leads through flower-filled alpine meadows and untouched nature. As a circular route, it returns to the starting point. The mountain lake Lech Dlá Lé is designated a natural monument. For planning your own route, the return to the starting point provides a fixed framework.

Culture and History in Badia

The Rüdeferia Mill in the municipality of Badia is protected as an architectural monument. Archaeological finds in Sotciastel near Badia bear witness to settlement in the area during the Bronze Age.

Badia’s well-preserved Ladin farmsteads are called “viles”. The hamlet of Oies is a frequently visited pilgrimage site; its focal point is the birthplace of the missionary Josef Freinademetz. The cellar of the Oies farm was converted into a chapel and decorated with works by the artists Kollreider from Lienz and Lois Irsara from Badia. Visitors interested in culture can see the pilgrimage site, Josef Freinademetz’s birthplace and the chapel at the Oies farm together in Oies.

The first mention of Badia’s parish church, the Church of St. James and St. Leonard, dates from a 14th-century document. Badia’s parish church has a Gothic bell tower and a Rococo interior. The Gothic tower and the Rococo interior belong to different stylistic periods. The Rait de San Linert, the ride in honour of Saint Leonard, takes place in Badia on the second Sunday in November.

Winter and Excursion Destinations

The “Baby La Crusc” ski slope is 300 metres long and particularly suitable for beginners. Its length of 300 metres is specified precisely for planning initial descents. At SummerPark La Crusc, visitors can, among other things, pan for gold and visit a dragon’s cave. Gold panning and visiting a dragon’s cave are listed there as independent activities. Beginners can plan the 300-metre “Baby La Crusc” separately from the activities at SummerPark La Crusc when organising their winter holiday.
