Historical Heritage in Gravellona Toce
The upper part of Gravellona Toce is considered a historic village, known in Italian as “borgo antico”. The town’s history can be seen in its buildings, archaeological finds and cultural attractions, which reflect different periods.

The exhibition “Memorie dal passato: l'abitato e la necropoli di Pedemonte” at the Antiquarium focuses on Felice Pattaroni’s excavations in Pedemonte during the 1950s. These excavations uncovered the remains of an ancient settlement dating from the 1st century BC to the 5th century AD, as well as a necropolis dating from the 5th century BC to the 4th century AD. Visits to the Antiquarium are free and possible only by prior appointment.
The Castello del Motto in Gravellona Toce is a ruined fortified complex on a rocky outcrop on the orographically right bank of the Strona stream, at an elevation of 325 metres above sea level. The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Pietro was built in the 12th century. Its façade dates from 1862 and is designed in the Neo-Renaissance style; the bell tower was built in 1856 on blocks of pink granite.

The VN1 route from Gravellona Toce to Mottarone runs along the ridge towards Alpe Colma and offers excellent views. The Via per Pella follows the western shore of Lake Orta and offers beautiful views of the lake, San Giulio Island, Orta and the entire eastern shore.
Gravellona Toce is the final stage of the Via Francisca. For cycling, the Ciclabile del Toce begins in Gravellona Toce, follows the banks of the River Toce and crosses a small metal bridge over the Strona stream.
