Villa Mainona and its gardens

Villa Mainona was built between 1670 and 1672 for the Mainoni family, who came from Intignano, a district of Tremezzo. It is one of the first historically documented examples of an aristocratic villa with a large garden on the lakeshore. The garden was used for citrus production; separate buildings were constructed to house the plants.

Villa Sola Cabiati also has a distinctive garden character. In front of it is an Italian garden enclosed by a broad wrought-iron gate with pillars and large carved stone vases.
