Trails through the landscape
An easy 7-kilometre circular trail from Miazzina explores the mountain meadows of Motta d'Aurelio. The route leads through chestnut forests to Alpe Aurelio, connecting different landscapes along a manageable course.
The circular trail around Motta d'Aurelio includes mountain paths, chapels and characteristic rural buildings. Along the way, you will encounter engraved and cup-marked rocks; panoramas also open up over Lago Maggiore, the Cusio and Val Grande.
Panoramas and village character
Miazzina is known for its panorama and is therefore nicknamed „il balcone sul Lago Maggiore“. The name refers to the view over Lago Maggiore, while the village is also characterised by its rural buildings, mountain paths and chapels.
Village districts, church and farming heritage
The two historic districts of Miazzina, „log dent“ and „log là “, were once independent and meet at the Chiesa di S. Lucia. The spatial connection between the two districts is therefore part of Miazzina's historic structure.
The Chiesa di S. Lucia in Miazzina was elevated to parish church status in 1618. Above the entrance portal is an organ built by Angelo Cavalli from Lodi in 1870. This organ is considered the only genuinely 19th-century organ in the area of Provincia Verbano-Cusio-Ossola.
The private CĂ dal fumm museum is furnished with objects from Miazzina's traditional rural material culture. Old objects are preserved in the small room of the Baita Fumo, including agricultural tools as well as kitchen, spinning and other working implements. Traditional women's clothing in Miazzina also includes a Florentine straw hat decorated with chenille and dried flowers.
A monument to Achille Tominetti stands near the parish church of Miazzina. Achille Tominetti was a 19th-century painter associated with Divisionism and died in 1917 at his home in Miazzina. Many paintings by Achille Tominetti depict recognisable views of Miazzina as well as scenes of rural and pastoral life.
Memorial sites and commemorative days
The Memoriale degli Alpini in Colletta stands behind a panoramic balcony overlooking the lakes. The Memoriale degli Alpini bears the names of 349 soldiers who fell in the war from 1915 to 1918, 47 soldiers who fell in the war from 1935 to 1936 and the African War, and 295 soldiers who fell in the Second World War.
A ceremony takes place every year at the Memoriale degli Alpini in the hills of Verbano. The Alpini commemoration is held at the Memoriale di Pala on the first Sunday in June. Both memorial sites and their dates give Miazzina's annual cycle a distinctly commemorative cultural character.
The S. Ulderico festival takes place in Miazzina on the second Sunday in August. On 13 December, Miazzina celebrates the parish festival of S. Lucia.
