Mont Avic Nature Park and the Dondena Valley

The visitor centre of Mont Avic Nature Park is located in the Fraz Chateau district of Champorcher. It was established in Villa Biamonti, a building constructed as a tourist residence at the beginning of the 20th century. The Mont Avic visitor centre illustrates the particularly interesting geological and morphological features of the Dondena Valley with photographs, finds, dynamic models and thematic maps. Geological features concern the structure of the subsurface, while morphological features concern the forms and structures of the landscape. These two terms therefore describe different perspectives on the Dondena Valley.

The Medieval Tower in Chateau

The medieval square tower in Chateau was built on the initiative of the Lords of Bard in the 11th century. After suffering damage in 1311, the tower was restored in 1320. In the 12th and 14th centuries, the medieval tower in Chateau served as an observation post. The tower thus represents several historical periods, ranging from its construction through a restoration to its function as an observation post.

Parish Church of San Nicola

The parish church of San Nicola was rebuilt and extended between 1728 and 1732 by the master builder Giovanni Ferro (Jean Fer). The parish church of San Nicola contains a painted and gilded Baroque wooden altar by Giovanni Battista Gilardi dating from 1741. The parish church of San Nicola was probably the chapel of the castle. The church building and the altar therefore date from different historical periods and each have their own date.

Hiking and Cross-Country Skiing

The Chateau–Lago Vercoche hike starts in Chateau and leads to Lago Vercoche. For orientation, the route is clearly defined by the named starting point and destination.

When cross-country skiing, you move on skis along a ski trail. The Moulin cross-country ski loop covers a total length of 5 km between the districts of Château and Chardonney. The distance and the two districts indicate the spatial course of the trail.
