Castle, Museum, and Historic Town Center

The historic center preserves remnants of the defensive wall and five surviving entrance gates: Porta San Nicola, Porta Mulino, Porta Santa Margherita, Porta San Marco, and Porta Cencio. The Chiesa di San Nicola is one of the oldest churches in Pettorano; it is first documented in a papal document issued by Paschal II in 1112. Water, Mills, and Industrial Archaeology

The Parco di Archeologia Industriale on the Gizio documents the connection between the watercourse and its former uses. The park includes three mills with horizontal waterwheels: the De Stephanis, Cantelmo, and Comunale mills. It also includes a Cantelmo fulling or hammer mill. Water-diversion channels and control structures with sluice gates are likewise part of this system.

The park also encompasses the Gizio River and its sources, a botanical garden with a picnic area, and a constructed wetland treatment plant. As a result, technical facilities, waterways, and landscaped outdoor areas together provide a distinct thematic focus.

Traditions and Regional Cuisine

The Sagra della Polenta in Pettorano sul Gizio can be traced back to the early 1960s. The event centers on a traditional dish from the Valle Peligna made from corn and enhanced with a pork-based sauce.
