Nature
You can reach Gautschgrotte from Hohnstein Market in about 15 minutes on foot. There is an 18-meter-high rock face with a waterfall; in freezing winters, a large column of ice can form.
Napoleonschanze is located on the 392-meter-high granite summit of Schanzenberg and offers a wide panorama over the region.
A hiking trail now runs through the Schwarzbach Valley along the route of the disused narrow-gauge railway. Bridges, tunnels and remnants of the track have been preserved. The ruins of Schwarzberg Castle, also known as Goßdorfer Raubschloss, are also connected with the Schwarzbach Valley area.
History
Hohnstein Castle rises above Hohnstein and the Polenztal Valley on a high rock. The castle complex includes a lookout tower, a castle garden, a museum and historic cellars.
The Hohnstein Castle Museum presents exhibitions on local and regional history, geology, and flora and fauna. The Hohnstein nature trail also starts at the castle.
Culture
The Hohnstein Kasper Trail commemorates the town’s puppet theater tradition and includes eight stations featuring Kasper heads.
The Max Jacob Theater Hohnstein presents puppet theater, cabaret, adult theater, concerts, lectures and readings. The theater can be reached by bus routes 235, 236, 237 and 254; it is about a ten-minute walk from Hohnstein Eiche.
