In Austelpark, the Purple Path presents the “Color Floating” light installation above the Austelteich pond. The illuminated elements are visible from dusk until midnight; during the cold season, the artwork is placed in storage.

Culture
The Church of the Trinity was first mentioned in 1320, rebuilt in its present form between 1688 and 1692, and contains a Baroque pulpit altar and an Eule organ. The Zwönitz tower keeper’s tour starts here; it includes access to the bell tower and a view from the Pfeiferstuhl.
The Fronveste was Zwönitz’s medieval prison and became the city’s night watchmen’s headquarters in 2009. A guided Zwönitz night watchman’s tour leads through the lanes past historically significant buildings and monuments. The tour includes the Fronveste and the opportunity to look over the city’s rooftops from the town hall tower.
The Niederzwönitz Paper Mill Technical Museum offers a multimedia tour via smartphone as well as step-free access using virtual reality headsets. There are also guided tours and workshops on making paper and cardboard. The history of the paper mill is documented from its first mention in 1568 through its conversion into a cardboard factory around 1868.
In Zwönitz Town Hall, a mechanical figurine display depicts a farmer’s wife, a miner, a monk and a shoemaker’s boy. The Bruno Gebhardt Collection in Austel Villa presents coins, weapons and handicrafts. St. Blasius Church is an old wayside chapel on the former Salt Road and contains a reredos with four figures.
History
The route through Zwönitz’s mining history follows the mining-related remains of the historic mining town.
Customs and Traditions
The Zwönitz Hutzen Days programme includes an evening miners’ parade with more than 500 participants in costume. Traditional Zwönitz Candlemas fare includes mulled wine, bratwurst and millet porridge.
