The approximately four-kilometre circular hiking trail “Historic Skiing” passes information stations that provide information about former ski manufacturers. It offers views of the Ore Mountain ridge, the Eibenstock Reservoir, and Schönheide with the surrounding mountains.

Nature
Schönheide is situated in a wooded area in the Western Ore Mountains, directly on the border with the Vogtland.
The “Around the Kuhberg” herb nature trail explains more than 200 species of native herbs, trees, and shrubs, as well as their uses, on information boards. During guided activities, herb seasonings, ointments, and tinctures can be made, herb bread can be baked, and dishes with wild herbs can be prepared.
The Vogtland Panorama Trail® passes the Forstmeister Hotel before reaching the first houses of Schönheide.
Culture and History
The Schönheide Brush and Local History Museum displays machines, tools, and raw materials used to make brushes and paintbrushes. It also features historic brushes, brooms, and paintbrushes, as well as documentary material on the development of the trade since around 1825. The upper floor contains objects and documents relating to local history, including a guild founding charter, a journeyman’s banner, and a Schönheide Christmas pyramid dating from around 1830.
In the regional context, the density of brush-making workshops in the Western Ore Mountain communities of Steinberg, Stützengrün, and Schönheide is considered the highest in Germany.
The present-day Martin Luther Church was put into use in 1773 after the first church in the town, consecrated in 1596, collapsed during a service in 1764. The tower of the present church was taken over from the first church building; it is 43.5 metres high and contains four bells.
The historic Schönheide museum railway runs between Schönheide and Stützengrün along a route of just under five kilometres. The journey passes through the Vogtland landscape and overcomes considerable differences in elevation. The museum railway includes a steam locomotive built in 1892, which is considered the oldest steam locomotive still in existence.
The Fuchsstein site has an open-air stage and is used for local recreation and cultural events.
