Culture and history

The Baroque “To the Glory of God” Church was built in Bernsbach between 1679 and 1681. It later served as a model for the church in Carlsfeld and is part of a broader architectural context that includes Dresden Frauenkirche.

The Bernsbach local history room presents the town’s history and regional working life from the settlement period around 1200 through industrial development in the 20th century. The collection includes a Cosmographia by Sebastian Münster from 1579; it can be viewed by prior telephone appointment.

Bernsbach developed a distinctive craft tradition in sheet-metal working, plumbing, spoon making, sponge production, sulfur match production, and lace making. More than 70 types of spoons were produced and traded as far as Spain, Russia, and Poland.

The local facilities include a solar-heated leisure pool and a bowling center with four lanes.
