Nature

The Dreifelder Weiher nature reserve protects bodies of water, shallow-water zones, marshland and adjacent wet grassland. The Dreifelder Weiher region is a gently undulating plateau at an elevation of 430 to 450 meters above sea level. The route offers opportunities to observe waterfowl at Dreifelder Weiher.

Culture and History

The Protestant Church of the Holy Trinity, a historic former pilgrimage church, stands in the town center. Its origins date back to the early Romanesque period around the year 1000; its name gave the town the name Dreifelden. The church has a fortified tower with five loopholes and is considered one of the oldest churches in the Westerwald. It was first mentioned in a document in 1319.

Hiking

The 7-Pond Trail is divided into sections of approximately 13 kilometers and 17.5 kilometers. Along the route, 16 information boards are positioned at selected points in the Westerwald Lake District.

The Romantic Lake District Route begins at the hikers’ car park by the cemetery in Dreifelden. After passing Dreifelder Weiher, it reaches the Steinen-Dreifelden forest playground. It also passes the Wölferlinger Weiher nature reserve and climbs to the 463-meter-high Schwengersberg, which offers scenic views. Swimming and pedal boating are possible at Postweiher in summer.
