Wallmerod: Hotels and Accommodations

Wallmerod and Westerburg are connected by the Wäller ALLEen-Weg, which was converted from a disused railway line into a cycling and hiking trail. The 16-kilometer route has only gentle inclines, is suitable for family tours with children, and offers several opportunities for a short break. The trail’s fine asphalt surface also supports inline skating.

The signage for the Wäller ALLEen-Weg is considered to be aligned with the cycling route guidelines of Rhineland-Palatinate. The trail is also part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Cycling Route. A longer connection is offered by the Nassau-Wäller Cycling Circuit: the 58-kilometer circular route leads from Westerburg via Wallmerod, Elz, Hadamar, and Dornburg back to Westerburg.

Between Wallmerod and Westerburg, villages have revived the tradition of communal bread baking. The Backesdörfer Tour mainly uses farm and forest tracks as well as local roads; most of the route is paved. It begins at the former railway station in Wallmerod or can be joined at any point along the route.

Culture

Wallmerod’s Christ Church was built between 1883 and 1885 as the town’s second Catholic chapel. It was extensively renovated in 1985; a further comprehensive renovation of the walls and interior followed in 2009 and 2010.

The Old Bakehouse at Bahnhofstraße 1 was built in the second half or toward the end of the 19th century. It combines a ground floor made of quarry stone with a half-timbered longhouse and brick infill. Wallmerod’s wayside shrine is a small place of prayer and procession that was probably built at the end of the 18th century.
