The Nerother Kopf is an extinct volcano that formed around 15,000 years ago. Its forested area contains volcanic bombs, lava blocks and remains of a millstone quarry.

Landscape and History
The ruins of Neroth Castle and the area around the millstone cave are associated with Neroth as protected cultural monuments. The cave can no longer be entered. The surviving castle building is a ruin from the 15th century and retains two twelve-metre-high gables as well as its hillside wall.
The Mouse Trap Museum has its roots in Neroth’s former wire-goods production. In the 19th century, Theodor Kläs introduced wire weaving, while Josef Pfeil’s workshop forms the core of the museum. The history of the Nerother Wandervögel is also part of the local cultural profile: the association was founded in the Nerother Cave on New Year’s Eve 1919/20.
Local associations maintain traditional customs. These include celebrations such as Radschieben, the Easter egg race, putting up the maypole, the village festival and the Christmas village.
Hiking
The Eifelsteig long-distance hiking trail passes directly by Neroth. A local circular hiking trail is called “Around Neroth: Forests, Volcano, Ruin”. It is classified as moderately difficult, covers around 15.6 kilometres and takes approximately 4 hours and 10 minutes. The route follows trail marker 1 through forests and fields and runs in a wide loop around Neroth. A white 1 on a blue background marks the way throughout.
Free parking is available at the church in Neroth and at two hikers’ car parks along the L 27.
Location and Cuisine
The local infrastructure includes a salt cave. Neroth also has three restaurants serving regional cuisine.
