Duppach: Hotels and Accommodation

The Eichholzmaar, a small, distinctly circular volcanic maar, lies between Steffeln and Duppach. Two mineral springs are located in the adjacent valley area. Duppach is also situated both in the UNESCO Global Geopark Vulkaneifel and in the North Eifel Nature Park.

Nature

At the Duppacher Drees, an information board explains the spring’s iron- and CO2-rich mineral water in German, English and Dutch. It also displays the logo of the UNESCO Global Geopark Vulkaneifel. At the Knauf Adventure Forge, visitors can watch a blacksmith working at an open forge.

Trails and Getting There

The “Volcanoes, Maars and Dreese” geo-hiking trail is a moderately difficult circular route of around 20.9 kilometres. The walking time is approximately 5 hours 45 minutes. Its two loops pass the Duppacher Drees, which is one of three iron-rich mineral springs.

Bus route 542 runs from Lissendorf railway station to the church in Steffeln. Free parking is indicated at the Duppach municipal hall at Hauptstraße 36. The Volcano Trail passes the Duppach-Weihermühle Roman villa and the Duppacher Weiher dry maar.

Culture and History

Duppach’s Catholic parish church is named St. Hubertus; the parish was first recorded in 846. The present St. Hubertus Church was built from 1923 to 1927. The choir of the older church continues to be used as a cemetery chapel.

The church received a relic of Saint Hubertus in 1751 from Cologne Cathedral provost Count Johann Karl Erb-Truchseß von Waldburg-Zeil. Roman archaeological remains can be found in Duppach-Weiermühle, including a necropolis and residential and farm buildings along the Roman road from Trier to Cologne.
