Culture and customs

The Church of St. Nicholas forms the historic center of Gees. It has been documented since 1580 and preserves its former eastern tower, to which a new building was added in 1904.

Gees also preserves the custom of Scheiwe Sonndesch. After nightfall, a burning wheel wrapped in straw is rolled down the Baarlay. The custom takes place on the first weekend after Carnival.

Getting there

The Geeser Drees can be reached from Gerolstein via the B410 in the direction of Pelm, followed by the K33 to Gees. Near the fire station, a parking lot is signposted at the “Zum Drees” sign; from there, a footpath leads to the spring.
