Nature and Surroundings
The Birresborn Ice Caves are in the immediate vicinity of Hinterhausen; Hardt is also nearby. The surrounding area is home to Kasselburg Castle, the Hünert development, Heidkopf and Sattel.
Culture
The historic centre of Hinterhausen is arranged around a small chapel and old houses and is designated as a cultural monument. The Catholic chapel is dedicated to Saint Lambertus. Visitation records document the chapel as early as 1712. The present building dates from 1867 and preserves historic elements, including an antependium from 1748 and a bell from 1687.
The wider regional area around Hinterhausen includes the ruins of Neu Blankenheim and Dollendorf.
Getting There and Parking
Bus route 532 connects Gerolstein with Hinterhausen. Free parking is available at the chapel or fire station, in the car park at the shelter, and in the Hinterhausen holiday park.
