Culture and history

The Catholic parish church of St. Mary Queen of the Rosary in Geisfeld is a listed building with a medieval tower and Baroque nave. In 1753, Balthasar Neumann drew up the plans for the parish church and provided the preliminary design for the nave built in 1753/54. The choir was built in 1767/68; in 1774, the medieval tower was given a new roof.

Near Geisfeld, the Geisfeld-Abtei War Memorial commemorates fallen soldiers who were involved in an aerial battle on January 29, 1944.

Landscape

The surrounding landscape is characterized by forests and meadows. Geisfeld is considered to be located on the edge of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park.

Hiking trails

To explore the surrounding landscape, Geisfeld has developed hiking trails and the Königsfeld Loop. The Panorama Trail passes the local landmarks Marterpfahl and Ämeskreuz.

The Königsfeld Loop is accessible by public transport and is located in the Saar-Hunsrück premium hiking region.

Cycling route

The Wald-Wiesen-Wacken Route is considered suitable for e-bikes. In its extended course, it passes through the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park as well as small Hunsrück-Hochwald settlements with opportunities to stop for a break and refreshments.

The route is 45 km long and runs along paved natural paths, some of which are gravelled. A 20.8 km section leads through Geisfeld, Beuren, Pölert and Rascheid.
