History

Near Dhronecken, a Roman settlement with a sanctuary, pilgrims’ houses and inns was established on the Röderberg. Dhronecken Castle was built in the 13th century by the Wildgraves as vassals of the Counts of Luxembourg and was first mentioned in writing around 1300 in connection with the knight Conrad von Tronecken. The Heusner House was the residence of the Wild- and Rhinegrave administrator of Dhronecken Castle.

The Decker Mill is still a functioning sawmill today and was first mentioned around 1750. The corner tower can still be climbed at Dhronecken Castle. The castle grounds are freely accessible. Cycling

The Wald-Wiesen-Wacken cycle path comprises a 28.3-kilometre loop connecting Thalfang, Neunkirchen and Dhronecken. Designed for e-bikes, the route passes through woodland and meadow landscapes with streams and rock formations.

Geographical Setting

In the Dhronecken basin, two streams merge to form the Kleine Dhron. The Kleine Dhron flows through a valley into the Dhron and ultimately into the Moselle.
