Nature
The Little and Great Prim merge in nearby Thiergarten; near Nonnweiler, the rivers are impounded by the Primstalsperre reservoir. Where the two Prims meet, wild daffodils bloom every spring. The municipality of Malborn promotes hiking in and around the town and explains that hikers can reach scenic destinations on foot from Malborn.
Around the Erbeskopf, visitors will find forests, biotopes, and rare animal and plant species within the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park and the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. In the wider surrounding region, the Gipfelrauschen National Park dream loop follows natural paths around the Erbeskopf. The route passes high moors and wetlands, including Springenbruch and Ehlesbruch.
Culture and History
The Catholic Church of St. Brixius in Malborn was built in 1806. Its west portal comes from St. Anne’s Chapel in Trier. The Marienkapelle is a privately maintained chapel of devotion that remains open to visitors; its most recent comprehensive renovation took place in 2021.
Among the town’s smaller cultural monuments is the wayside cross in Malborn, a shaft cross in simple classical forms. The former charcoal-burning site is associated with the historic production of charcoal. In nearby Thiergarten, St. Mary’s Church has 14 small, colorful windows connected to the rose window above the altar.
The St. Nicholas Spring is also linked to the history of the surrounding area: Medieval pilgrims traveling to the All Saints Chapel in Wüstenbrühl rested at the spring. Historically, it was considered to have healing powers and to be of exceptional quality.
