Cycling

Lennestadt is one of the four main towns along the SauerlandRadring. The SauerlandRadring can be reached by public transport from the train stations in Grevenbrück and Altenhundem. Under “Cycling by Numbers”, the cycling network uses continuous numbering. The cycling routes follow rivers or former railway lines.

Culture and history

Peperburg was the oldest seat of power in the eastern Südsauerland region. In Grevenbrück, Peperburg is located as a castle ruin in the Breiter Hagen nature reserve. It was used from the first half of the 12th century until the final decades of the 13th century. Only the foundations of its southern castle area remain.

The permanent exhibition “43/1 – Unity in Diversity” at the Museum of the City of Lennestadt presents the history of Lennestadt and its surroundings. The caves near Grevenbrück contain the oldest known traces of humans in the Lennestadt area.
