Kneipp offerings and water
For guests interested in Kneipp treatments, AquaOlsberg and several facilities in the town offer different options. The AquaOlsberg Sauerland thermal spa combines brine and Kneipp treatments with sports and leisure activities. The spa includes a 25-metre sports pool with water heated to 28 °C. When planning, you can consider whether treatments, a sports pool or a broader range of leisure activities are your priority.
The Kneipp ErlebnisPark comprises ten Kneipp rest areas. There, visitors can experience all five Kneipp elements with all their senses. The historic Dr. GrĂĽne Kneipp Park has a Kneipp facility integrated into a pond, as well as a barefoot path and relaxation islands. Dr. GrĂĽne Spa Park also features wading and arm basins for Kneipp water applications, a pond and a fountain. These individual amenities can help you decide in advance what kind of Kneipp experience you are looking for.
Hiking trails and Kneipp experiences on the way
The Kneipp WanderWeg Olsberg is 40 kilometres long and has been certified as a “Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland” (Quality Trail: Hiker-Friendly Germany). There are six natural Kneipp wading spots along the trail. It starts at the Rote Brücke, a distinctive railway bridge above the Gierskopp district on Roter Weg. The length and number of wading spots are useful details when deciding whether this trail suits your own hiking plans.
The WohlfĂĽhlroute (Wellbeing Route) of the Kneipp ErlebnisPark also follows the Kneipp AktivWeg and the Ruhr and Gierskopp rivers to the Kneipp herb garden. It links sections of the trail with a specific destination. Anyone interested in water and Kneipp can make this route a focus; the 40-kilometre WanderWeg, by contrast, is another option whose overall length is clearly indicated. In the area around the Maxstollen, there is a rest area and a spring suitable for a refreshing Kneipp arm pour.
Nature and history
The Bruchhauser Steine are located near Olsberg-Bruchhausen. The area is a nature reserve, an FFH site and a bird sanctuary, and was designated North Rhine-Westphalia’s first National Natural Monument in April 2017. A visitor centre with guided tours and several themed trails provide access to the protected rocky area. Between the Bruchhauser Steine there is also a prehistoric hillfort and cult site dating from around 500 BC. Nature lovers and guests interested in early history will find several different topics here to consider when choosing their excursions.
The Eisenberg near Olsberg can also be viewed from different perspectives: it is one of the 43 Sauerland-Seelenorte (Sauerland Soul Places) in the Sauerland-Wanderdörfer hiking region. In the 18th century, four tunnels were dug into the southern slope of the Briloner Eisenberg near Olsberg; the Philippstollen is one of them. These historical details offer a reason in their own right to explore the area’s history.
