Elleringhausen combines hiking opportunities along the Rothaarsteig with a distinctive village character, historic sites, art and small Kneipp spots.

Hiking between the Rothaarsteig and the Village Centre

Elleringhausen lies directly on the Rothaarsteig and offers numerous hiking opportunities there. The signposted Elleringhausen Panorama Trail leads around Elleringhausen; its start and finish are at the Old Church Square in the village centre. The Panorama Trail thus forms a loop around Elleringhausen and returns to its starting point. The Golden Villages Trail can also be started in Elleringhausen at the Old Church Square.

Gierskoppbach, Bridges and Half-Timbered Houses

The Gierskoppbach shapes the appearance of Elleringhausen and has been preserved in its natural stream bed to this day. Along the village road, a total of 19 bridges cross the village stream. Along the village road, you will therefore repeatedly encounter the stream and its crossings. The village character brings together the stream, bridges and half-timbered houses as tangible elements.

Half-Timbered District and Studio

The centre of Elleringhausen is formed by the so-called Solstätten with their half-timbered buildings. Among the surviving Solstätten in Elleringhausen’s half-timbered district is the studio of the artist Jürgen Suberg. Many of Jürgen Suberg’s works are located in his studio in Elleringhausen. In the centre of Elleringhausen, half-timbered buildings and Jürgen Suberg’s works meet in the studio.

Peace Chapel and Stations of the Cross on the Ruthenberg

The Peace Chapel in Elleringhausen is one of the 43 Sauerland Soul Places. It was built by men from Elleringhausen who returned from the war. The Stations of the Cross on the Ruthenberg is classified as a historic site and monument and ends at the Peace Chapel. The Peace Chapel can be reached from the Old Church Square by following the Gierskoppbach, crossing a footbridge and walking up to the Ruthenberg. Along this route, the village centre, stream, bridge and hillside follow one another up to the chapel.

Fire Oak and Art in the Village Character

The Fire Oak, an eight-metre-high carved oak tree, stands near Elleringhausen. The work of art depicts the course of humanity and, in particular, its dependence on wood and fire. At night, the Fire Oak is illuminated by solar cells; an artificial titanium flame lights up in the process.

Cycle Routes to Elleringhausen

The Kneipp Cycle Route Olsberg leads from Olsberg to Elleringhausen via a cycle path. Route 8, “The Three Golden Villages Tour”, follows a green-signposted cycle route for approximately 5 km to Elleringhausen. Thus, a cycle connection from Olsberg and a signposted tour with its own route length come together in Elleringhausen.

Kneipp Spots and Rest Stops

There is a playground and a covered picnic area at the shooting hall in Elleringhausen. A small Kneipp herb garden has been laid out on the hillside in the Schogge. The village meadow also has a nature-oriented barefoot path based on the Kneipp tradition. The three locations—shooting hall, Schogge and village meadow—thus mark different points for resting, herbs and exercise in the village.

Other Places

Bruchhausen, Elpe, Wulmeringhausen, Gierskopp and Assinghausen.
