History and Culture
The Stertschultenhof in Cobbenrode is a former monastery carriage station of Meschede Abbey, first mentioned in 1310. The farm was restored between 1998 and 2001; its characteristic stencil and roller wall paintings have been preserved. The historic building can be visited. Since 2001, Stertschultenhof has also served as a public meeting place and an archive for the Low German dialect.
The Alte Mühle Cobbenrode is a restored, water-powered grain mill from the 17th or 18th century. The water power system can be demonstrated there, and grain can be milled using the preserved milling equipment. A small museum room displays tools used by millers in earlier times.
Local Tradition
The mill complex includes a bakehouse with a stone oven dating from 1903. Traditional stone-oven bread is baked there and served with Sauerland specialities such as ham, lard or honey. Regular baking days take place.
