Hochplattenbahn, toboggan run and trails
The family-friendly Hochplattenbahn double chairlift takes visitors from Marquartstein to an altitude of 1,040 metres. The natural toboggan run, around 3.5 kilometres long, starts at the mountain station. It winds through the snowy mountain forest down to the valley station. Snow and operating conditions are important for this winter activity; the railway’s operating hours may also vary by season. Check the latest information before your visit.
The mountain station is also a starting point for activities in the warmer months. The easy Staffen mountain forest adventure trail starts there; it is a 4-kilometre circular route. In summer, varied, well-marked hiking tours also lead from the mountain station to the Piesenhauser Hochalm.
The Hochplatte complements these starting points as Marquartstein’s local mountain. The village also has a network of cycling and hiking trails.
Fairytale Adventure Park and landscape
Marquartstein’s Fairytale Adventure Park has a summer toboggan run. The park also has a petting zoo with goats and a wildlife enclosure with red and fallow deer. The park’s opening periods may vary; check current operating information before your visit.

Churches and local history
The Catholic parish church “Zum kostbaren Blut” (Precious Blood) was built in 1936 in the centre of Marquartstein. Its interior features paintings by artist Werner Schön, who came from the village district of Piesenhausen. The church thus links its architectural history with an artist from one of Marquartstein’s districts. Another connection to local history is Burgkirche St. Veit: Richard Strauss married the singer Pauline de Ahna there on 10 September 1894.
Schnappenkirche is located within the municipality of Marquartstein. It was built between 1637 and 1640 on the orders of the provosts of Herrenchiemsee Abbey, to plans by Traunstein master builder Wolfgang König. From the church, the view stretches across the Chiemgau Alps to Lake Chiemsee. Its construction period, patrons and architect offer a historical perspective, while the viewpoint connects this with views of the landscape. The church and the parish church in the village centre thus represent different chapters in local architectural and cultural history.
