Reifinger See: Swimming and leisure activities

Reifinger See is a swimming lake with a water surface area of 20,000 square metres. Facilities at the lake include sunbathing lawns and a jetty, as well as separate swimming areas for non-swimmers and toddlers. There is also a “mud bridge” for toddlers. A playground, a beach volleyball court and a small raft round out the leisure facilities. This means you can enjoy swimming and a range of ways to spend time by the water in one place.

Reifinger See also has specific facilities to make access more accessible: one changing cabin is wheelchair accessible. A wheelchair is available on site in a cabin secured with a euro lock. A ramp at the shore makes it easier to enter the water. The accessible toilet can be opened with a euro key. If you rely on particular access facilities or amenities, confirm their condition before your trip.

Moorland Experience Trail and Salt & Moor Museum

The moorland experience trail starts right at the Salt & Moor Museum, between Grassau and Rottau, and is partially accessible. The trail is currently being redesigned, and the route for the pram-friendly option has also changed. The forest path is not suitable for prams. Keep this restriction in mind when choosing your route and check the current trail layout before your visit.

The Salt & Moor Museum combines an exhibition about the moor with the history of the historic brine pumping station. The exhibition includes original artefacts, dioramas and interactive features. Information panels, models, films and simulations illustrate how the brine pumping station works. The museum thus offers both an introduction to the moor and an insight into historic technology. Kendlmühlfilzen, one of the largest raised bogs in southern Germany, borders the Salt & Moor Museum Klaushäusl directly.

There is parking and a public toilet at the museum. If you would like to combine both, you can include the museum visit and the trail in your day’s plans, while keeping in mind the ongoing redesign and the restriction for prams on the forest path.

Culture and events

The Sawallisch estate in Grassau’s Kucheln district is managed by the Wolfgang Sawallisch Foundation. It is open to visitors during guided tours and regular concerts at the villa. If a concert or guided tour is important to your stay, check the events calendar and the dates listed there in advance. This lets you plan your visit around a specific event without assuming that something will be on during your travel dates.

Public transport

The Achental bus route 9505 serves the Grassau Kirchplatz stop. It is not always possible to bring a bicycle on board. If you plan to continue your journey by bicycle or take it on the bus, check the current conditions before travelling. When choosing your accommodation, consider which of the places mentioned are important to your trip and plan your routes accordingly.
