Location and Local History

Grassau is a market town in the Traunstein district of Upper Bavaria. The town is located in the Chiemgau region in the Achental valley, south of Lake Chiemsee, and thus within the wider Chiemgau and Achental landscape south of the lake. Grassau is also a state-recognized climatic spa town in the Chiemgau and Achental area.

The history of Grassau dates back at least to 1259; the present-day district of Mietenkam is recorded as Muytenheim for the year 1114.
