Drachselsried is a municipality in the Regen district of Lower Bavaria and a state-recognized health resort. The main town is located in the Zellertal valley at the foot of the Heugstatt, in the heart of the Bavarian Forest.

Landscape
The Riesberg, Hochstein and Wolfgangriegel mountains are located in the immediate surroundings of Drachselsried. The surrounding area also includes Platte and the ruins of Neunussberg Castle.
History and Culture
Drachselsried was first mentioned in 1184. A noble estate was established there in the 14th century, and around 1550 the settlement was first described as a village and Hofmark.
The settlement is associated with the parish church of St. Giles, which can be seen in the view of the town. In the wider surrounding region are Mitterfels Castle, Chammünster with the parish church of the Assumption of Mary, as well as St. George.
Geographical Location
Drachselsried is located approximately 8 kilometers northwest of Bodenmais, approximately 16 kilometers east of Viechtach, and approximately 22 kilometers from Zwiesel and Regen. The nearest train station with Waldbahn connections is located in Bodenmais.
