Landscape and Trails

The juniper pastures and mixed forest, managed using traditional coppicing methods, offer hiking opportunities in Ergersheim with an unspoilt character. The landscape is defined both by open pastureland and by managed woodland. The 135-kilometre Aischtal cycle path is listed as a cycling option in Ergersheim and its surroundings. The European Watershed Trail is also mentioned as a hiking and cycling option for Ergersheim and the surrounding area. Its 97-kilometre route runs from Ansbach to Schnelldorf along the European watershed on the heights of Frankenhöhe Nature Park. Local leisure options and the longer route described here can therefore serve as distinct points of reference when planning.

Ermetzhofen: Cemetery and Mills

In the district of Ermetzhofen, the Jewish cemetery preserves a tahara house and around 400 gravestones dating from 1791 to 1936. It served as a district cemetery for the Jewish communities of Burgbernheim, Ermetzhofen, Gnodstadt, Uffenheim and Welbhausen, so its history encompasses several communities. The entrance is on Bergtshofener Straße and can be reached via a field path. If you are planning a visit, check current access arrangements in advance.

The Obermühle and Kellermühle are also associated with Ermetzhofen. The Obermühle was first mentioned in a document there in 1277, and the Kellermühle in 1352. These first recorded mentions provide a concrete chronological comparison for the history of the district’s mills.

Wine Village and Nature Conservation at the Municipal Level

The range at Winzerhof Hofmann in Ergersheim includes wine and Secco, grape juice and spirits. The availability of individual products may vary seasonally. The municipality of Ergersheim also has three nature reserves with a total area of around 400 hectares: one in Ergersheim and two in the district of Seenheim. For orientation, it is worth distinguishing between the town and the municipality: two of the three protected areas are in Seenheim.
