Accommodation in Landshut
When looking for accommodation in Landshut, cultural and historical interests and leisure activities can also play a role in planning your trip. The options range from archaeological collections and the history of crafts to leisure activities. When planning, consider whether you would like to focus mainly on cultural and historical sites or include an active itinerary: each place has a different focus.
Museums with different areas of focus
The Goldbach MUSEUM opened in March 2025 in the renovated Stiegler-Hof. It is dedicated to the history of the market town of Ergoldsbach and the surrounding villages in the Goldbach Valley. The Archaeological Museum in the Heimathaus Essenbach takes a different historical perspective. More than 300 archaeological finds, all from within the municipality, provide an overview of almost 7,500 years of settlement history in the central Isar Valley. Here, the focus is on artefacts and a long history of settlement, while the Goldbach MUSEUM explores the history of a market town and its surrounding villages.
At the Vilsbiburg Local History Museum – Kröninger Pottery Museum, the focus is on “Kröninger pottery” and the working and living conditions of the potters. The exhibition spans 15 rooms and also covers prehistory and early history, local history, social institutions, domestic culture, and crafts. The Altdorf Museum also brings together architecture and history: parts of the historic timber-frame building were dated to 1547 and 1550 using tree-ring analysis. Its archaeological finds, excavation results, and scientific findings offer insights into past living conditions and burial customs.
Other collections have their own distinctive focus. The Geisenhausen Museum features the permanent exhibition “Body and Soul”: using exhibits, it explores how people in the municipality on the Vils kept body and soul together throughout history. The Aichbachtal Local History Museum brings together prehistory and early history with the development of the village and its surroundings; its exhibits include excavation finds from the Renaissance, as well as farming and craft tools from past centuries. The Vinum Celticum Museum, meanwhile, offers insights into the world of the Celts and winegrowing in the region.
Activities and special ways to visit
In Niederaichbach, a Kneipp facility is located right on the Landshut Heights hiking trail. The Waketoolz Wakepark in Wörth an der Isar offers a different kind of leisure activity: it has two cable systems, one 890 metres long and a smaller one of about 200 metres. These different options give your plans a range of possible focuses, from a trail with a Kneipp facility to a venue with two cable systems.
The Ahrain School Museum in Oberahrain is designed as an interactive school museum with a hands-on concept. In a historic classroom, lessons are conducted as they were more than 100 years ago. As this format is tied to specific visiting arrangements, you should check these in advance. It is also advisable to check visiting options for the Radio Museum in Rottenburg an der Laaber: its exhibits provide an overview of every era of broadcasting. The Bavarian Centre for Traditional Costume Culture in Holzhausen comprises a traditional costume museum and a youth education centre, adding traditional costume culture and educational work to the region’s other themes.
If you are planning to visit several places, start by grouping them by theme and municipality.
