Feldafing on Lake Starnberg
Accommodation in Feldafing
Feldafing offers a range of very different reasons to visit: Roseninsel, accessible by seasonal ferry, the expansive Lenné Park and Kalvarienberg, with its panoramic views over Lake Starnberg. There is also the historic lido and the golf course in the park. If you are looking for accommodation in Feldafing, these highlights can help with your planning. First consider whether you would like to focus more on the landscape, local history or a visit to the island.

Roseninsel: Ferry crossing, museum and World Heritage
From May through October 15, you can take a Plette boat to Roseninsel. The crossing is limited to a maximum of 30 people. Strollers and wheelchairs can be brought along; dogs and bicycles are not permitted on the island. Since the crossing is seasonal and its conditions are important for a visit, it is advisable to check the latest information again before travelling.
Prehistoric pile-dwelling remains on the bed of Lake Starnberg near Roseninsel are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the island, the Gardener’s House now contains a small museum and a ticket office. An island visit therefore brings both the history of the place and the special conditions of the crossing into focus. If you are planning a visit to the island, you can plan around the season and take the restrictions on dogs and bicycles into account.
Lenné Park and Kalvarienberg
Lenné Park preserves key features of an English landscape garden: picturesque groups of trees, open meadows, streams and walking paths adapted to the terrain. The paths open up unexpected views of Lake Starnberg and the mountains. The design history can be dated precisely: Peter Joseph Lenné received the commission on April 26, 1854; Carl von Effner took charge of the practical execution from 1855 to 1863. The design concept and its implementation thus correspond to two clearly defined periods in the park’s history.
Part of Lenné Park has been used as a golf course since 1926; the Golf-Club Feldafing e.V. is located there. This use is also part of the park’s character, alongside its landscape features. Those interested in its history can consider the origins of the English landscape garden alongside the later use of part of the park as a golf course.
Kalvarienberg offers a different perspective on Feldafing’s local history. It consists of 14 cast-iron Stations of the Cross shrines with painted limestone reliefs behind glass, as well as a Crucifixion group made of cast zinc and iron. The site was laid out over 25 years, from 1864 to 1892; it was inaugurated on August 28, 1892. From the Crucifixion group, panoramic views extend southeast across Lake Starnberg to the mountain range from Benediktenwand to the Wetterstein massif. The site’s history and the view come together at this particular spot.
Historic lido and getting there
Feldafing’s listed lido is still largely in its original 1927 condition. Its historic character includes 150 changing cabins and elongated wooden buildings. This describes the preserved site, not whether it is currently open. If a visit to the lido is part of your plans, check current visitor information in advance.
You can reach Feldafing by public transport on S-Bahn line 6 in the direction of Tutzing; get off at Feldafing. Check the current timetable before travelling, as service patterns and journey times can change. For planning purposes, it is helpful to consider this travel information separately from the conditions for visiting Roseninsel: the S-Bahn and the seasonal ferry crossing are two different practical matters.
