Discover Rehau: Themed Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Rehau
Explore Rehau through a range of interests: themed trails lead to nature and history, while the museum centre and historic sites offer insights into the past. The following destinations provide specific ideas for your visit.
Themed Trails and Routes in Rehau
The Owl Trail starts next to the railway underpass on the country road between Fohrenreuth and Eulenhammer. It can be reached by bike via the Pearl Route. This route covers 27 kilometres from Oberkotzau through Rehau, Schönwald and Selb to Asch. For planning purposes, it is helpful to distinguish between the figures: 27 kilometres describes the Pearl Route, not the length of the Owl Trail.
Two different distances are given for the Franzosengräber themed trail: starting from the car park on the HO 4 district road, the trail is about 3.3 kilometres long; with the return journey via a forest path, the route is about 6.5 kilometres. The trail was created to mark the 200th anniversary of the Franzosengräber in Rehau. When choosing your route, you can distinguish between the shorter distance from the car park and the longer route including the return journey, rather than treating the two figures as the same route.
The Planet Trail offers a different focus, explaining, among other things, the significance of each planet in Greek mythology. If you are interested in these stories, it offers a themed experience distinct from the historical stops on the Franzosengräber trail.
Nature Farm and Group Activities
The FaĂźmannsreuther Erde nature farm offers guided tours, seminars and talks for groups and individual visitors. If you would like to make a visit a firm part of your trip, check availability directly with the nature farm in advance. This lets you plan around the activities it offers rather than assuming that a tour or event is always available.
Museum Centre and Historic Sites
The museum centre in Rehau has a dedicated exhibition room for the historic Zapf pharmacy. It also displays the original furnishings of a blacksmith’s workshop in Rehau, showing how physically demanding work was in the past. The two exhibits have different focuses: the pharmacy exhibition centres on the historic chemist’s shop, while the blacksmith’s furnishings showcase the world of work. This can help you choose what to see at the museum based on the subjects that interest you most.
In Pilgramsreuth, a district of Rehau, the village church dates back to 1308. The Evangelical Lutheran parish church contains remnants of Gothic frescoes and a rich, cohesive Baroque interior dating to around 1700. The Peace Oaks on Maxplatz commemorate a different historical event: they were planted on 12 April 1871 during a peace celebration following the end of the Franco-Prussian War. The church and the trees thus offer two distinct historical points of interest.
Getting There and Choosing Your Focus
Rehau lies on the Hof–Selb railway line, also known as the Gutenfürst–Marktredwitz line. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable for your travel date. As you plan the rest of your trip, consider your interests: the routes offer a range of themes and distances, the museum centre combines pharmacy history with craftsmanship, and Pilgramsreuth focuses on church architecture and interior design. Find hotels in Rehau and choose according to which of these aspects matters most for your stay.
