Selbitz: Hotels and Accommodation

The Selbitz Valley Trail OS 32 is a 13-kilometre, easy hike. The Snack Trail OS 33 is a 16-kilometre, easy circular route starting and ending in Selbitz that passes through orchards, small settlements and wooded uplands. Along the Snack Trail, hikers can sample Frankenwald-Kitz, blue dumplings and an original Franconian potato dumpling with gravy in Selbitz. Selbitz is also home to a circular hiking trail called Bockpfeifer.

The Selbitz Valley Cycle Path HO 2 is mostly flat and has only a few moderate climbs. It follows the Selbitz to the Saale near Blankenstein and ends at Bad Steben railway station. The Selbitz Valley Cycle Path was commissioned in 2002 to promote tourism and recreation.

Culture and History

The first documented mention of Selbitz dates back to 1374. The rebuilt church in Selbitz was inaugurated in 1640. The Evangelical Church of Selbitz contains a Knoll pulpit altar.

The Bockpfeifer figure recalls a 19th-century nickname associated with itinerant musicians. A Bockpfeifer fountain stands next to Selbitz Town Hall. Selbitz is also home to the motherhouse of the Communität Christusbruderschaft.

Selbitz's traditional Wiesenfest was introduced in 1834 and is still celebrated in the second half of July. The Anger provides space for relaxation, exercise and events.

The Selbitz School Museum presents a classroom from around 1900 in its original setting. It includes old reading books, pencil cases and timetables, as well as regional settlement maps, a loom and carrying baskets. The School Museum is currently closed because the building has been decommissioned.

Location and Classification

Selbitz is located in the Hof district of Bavaria. Selbitz is described as being near the Bayerisches Vogtland motorway interchange on the A9 and A72. The Hof–Selbitz–Bad Steben railway line opened in 1887.
