Discover Streitberg: Nature, Views and History
Accommodation in Streitberg
Streitberg combines the experience of nature, paths through the Wiesent Valley and visible traces of the town’s history. The Bing Cave lies underground, the ruins of Streitburg Castle tower above the town, and a short path leads from the town centre to the Muschelquelle spring. The Wiesenttal Trail Tour, the Kneipp facility and the Prince Rupprecht Pavilion each add further distinctive highlights.

Nature underground: The Bing Cave in Streitberg is a show cave with a route almost 300 metres long passing atmospheric illuminated stalactite and stalagmite formations. After a short briefing by trained staff, visitors explore the cave on their own. The temperature is 9°C all year round. The combination of the almost 300-metre-long route, the lighting and the consistently stable year-round temperature defines the cave experience. Anyone who then visits other destinations in the Wiesent Valley moves from a clearly enclosed interior space into the landscape.
Wiesenttal Trail Tour
The Wiesenttal Trail Tour includes sinter terraces and a waterfall on the Wendenbach stream. One of its highlights is Streitburg Castle with its dungeon pits. The sinter terraces and the waterfall on the Wendenbach stand in contrast to the dungeon pits as the historical reference of Streitburg Castle.
Getting there
The VGN leisure bus route Wiesenttal-Express 389 takes hikers from Ebermannstadt to the starting point of the tour in Streitberg. The connection is therefore directly linked to the beginning of the Wiesenttal Trail Tour.
Ruins and views
The ruins of Streitburg Castle are located above the town of Streitberg and include the dungeon pits. From the viewpoint at the ruins, visitors can look across the Wiesent Valley towards the Neideck castle ruins opposite. The ruins were once among the most significant medieval fortifications in the entire Franconian Switzerland region. The former importance of the fortification is part of the history of the ruins. The Prince Rupprecht Pavilion is a historic highlight and a popular viewpoint in the Wiesent Valley above Streitberg. The ruins and the pavilion thus combine architectural history with a view of the valley.
Spring, Kneipp facility and local character
The Muschelquelle spring in Streitberg is easily accessible via a short path from the town centre. There is a small stream at the spring. The Kneipp facility in Streitberg has a traditional water-treading pool designed according to the principles of Sebastian Kneipp. Together with Muggendorf, Streitberg is one of the two oldest climatic health resorts in Franconian Switzerland. The spring and the Kneipp facility therefore represent two different water features in the town area: a stream at the spring and a Kneipp water-treading pool.
Planning your day locally
The spatial relationships between the destinations vary for day planning: The Bing Cave remains an indoor space with a temperature of 9°C, the ruins are located above the town, and the Muschelquelle spring is connected to the town centre. The Wiesenttal Trail Tour begins in Streitberg; the Wiesenttal-Express 389 provides the connection from Ebermannstadt to the starting point. Natural features include stalactite and stalagmite formations, sinter terraces and the waterfall on the Wendenbach. The Muschelquelle spring and the Kneipp facility complement the town area.
