Getting Here and Finding Your Way

Schwabhausen and the district of Arnbach are both on the S2 S-Bahn line between Altomünster and Dachau. Plan your journey using the current timetable, as service frequency and travel times may change. A field path is also a local landmark: it leads into Schwabhausen’s Blumenviertel neighbourhood and ends at Kornblumenstraße.

Local History: From the Church to the Inn

St. Michael is Schwabhausen’s parish church. Remains of a Celtic hillfort lie to the northwest, evidence of Celtic settlement in the area. This settlement activity is dated approximately to the period from 500 to 15 BC, giving the town’s history a connection to the distant past.

Another historical remembrance is of Pope Pius VI: a plaque at the present-day “Zur Post” inn commemorates his official farewell in Schwabhausen. The Gasthof zur Post also has a history as a stopping place for travellers. The “Obern Tafern,” now the Gasthof zur Post, was once the town’s most important point of call for travellers. The plaque and the Tafern’s historical role offer different reasons to explore Schwabhausen’s past.

Sports and Leisure in Town

The sports complex at Jahnstraße 5 brings together several different facilities. These include the “Heinrich-Loder-Halle” sports hall, a beach volleyball court, facilities for bowls and bocce, a five-a-side soccer pitch and a pump track. This named location is home to both an indoor sports hall and a range of outdoor courts and facilities for physical activity, forming a key part of the local leisure offering.

Another option is the life-size chessboard between the town hall and the market square. It was installed in 2018 and can be used free of charge without booking in advance. You can get the code for the chess pieces from the municipal administration. This makes the chessboard different from the facilities on JahnstraĂźe: you need to obtain the code for the pieces, but no advance booking is required to play.

Seasonal Nature in Schwabhausen

Lapwings return to the municipality of Schwabhausen every year from February. The males court females with spectacular display flights and their loud “Kie-witt!” calls. If you would like to watch the birds, stay on the paths during the breeding season and avoid disturbing them. Information about the birds therefore also offers practical guidance for enjoying nature responsibly.

A flower meadow is another seasonal highlight: one is taking shape in the green corridor between MohnblumenstraĂźe and BlumenstraĂźe. A total of 240 flower bulbs were planted there, and in spring you can see daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops. The field path into Blumenviertel, ending at KornblumenstraĂźe, is another local route marker. Together, the information about the birds, spring flowers and route offers different points of reference if you would like to include nature and finding your way around town in your visit plans.
