Cross-Country Skiing and Skiing in Bischofswiesen

The Aschauerweiher cross-country skiing centre has eight trails of all difficulty levels, with a total of 16 kilometres of trails. The two figures describe different things: eight is the number of trails, while 16 kilometres is their combined length at the centre. This gives you an idea of the scope of the cross-country skiing options without confusing the total distance with the length of an individual trail.

The stadium loop has additional features: weather permitting, it is covered with machine-made snow. From Tuesday to Thursday, it is floodlit until around 8 p.m. Snowmaking and lighting apply to this loop; they should not be mistaken for a claim about the operation of every trail. As this is a seasonal offering and snowmaking depends on the weather, check current operating conditions before your visit.

The Götschen ski area serves as a training and competition venue for elite sport and also as a family ski area for locals and visitors. This dual role sets Götschen apart from cross-country skiing at the Aschauerweiher centre: here, the focus is on the ski area, while there it is on the trail network. Churches, Playground and Landscape

There are also different points of interest to consider when planning your stay beyond winter sports. The adventure playground by the school in Bischofswiesen has playhouses, a climbing net, a swing, a balance course and water features.

The Maria Hilf pilgrimage church is located in the high-altitude district of Loipl. It was completed in 1798/99 and is the oldest church in Bischofswiesen. The Church of Creation in Bischofswiesen offers a different architectural and artistic feature: its wooden beam structure extends far into the church interior. There are also wooden panels in warm colours, created in 2008 by Schönau artist Christoph Merker. The two churches thus differ both in their described features and in the dates: for Maria Hilf, the date refers to the church’s completion; for the Church of Creation, it refers to the year the panels were created.

The viewpoint at Kastensteinerwand offers a view of the Watzmann. In the Strub district, Böcklmoos, together with the adjoining Dachlmoos, is considered the largest and best-preserved raised bog in the Berchtesgaden Alps. The viewpoint and the raised bog offer different landscape highlights: a view of the Watzmann in one case, and a distinctive bog landscape in the other.
