Hösbach: Hiking Trails, Nature and Culture

The route to the Wandererbrunnen starts in the southwest of Hösbach, at the Waldschenke. It climbs gently through an unspoilt, idyllic valley with a stream. You will reach the fountain after about 15 minutes. If you would like to walk through the municipal forest, you can start the forest nature trail in Hösbach-Sand at the Froschmaul-Brunnen. The trail is about three kilometres long and takes approximately 30 minutes to walk. According to the municipal description, it is suitable for walks with children.

In the district of Rottenberg, a circular route of about 45 minutes leads through orchards and past fields. The routes therefore differ not only in duration but also in scenery: the forest nature trail runs through municipal woodland, while the loop in Rottenberg takes in orchards and field edges. Conditions may vary by season and along the trails; check them for your planned walk.

Cultural Sites and Historic Places

The “Hösbacher Kulturpunkte” (Hösbach Cultural Sites) begin at the school centre. Their six stops cover geology, nature conservation, cultural landscapes, industrial heritage and village history, and present aspects of the cultural landscape of the lower Aschaff Valley. The route also offers panoramic views of the Aschaff Valley and the Spessart. It involves an elevation difference of about 50 metres. If you would like to combine topics from natural and local history with a viewpoint on a walk, this cultural route offers several perspectives along the way.

The late Baroque pilgrimage church in the district of Schmerlenbach was built in 1758/59 under Abbess Engelberta von Rodenhausen. The church’s oldest work of art is considered to be a Pietà dating from around 1380 and standing about 30 centimetres tall. These two dates refer to different periods: the construction of the church and the considerably older work of art. They give Hösbach’s cultural route and historic places a tangible connection to the history of the district.

Cycling Routes and Other Leisure Activities

The route from the Wandererbrunnen via the “Drei Kreuze” to Schmerlenbach, also known as “Sieben Wege,” is suitable for mountain biking and challenging cross-country runs. It is well signposted. Another option is the well-surfaced Günthersbach/Kniebreche loop between Hösbach and Wenighösbach. It passes a former brickworks; those who continue to the hilltop can enjoy views across the valley. The routes, trail surfaces and views distinguish these two options.

The walking and cycling path from Hösbach to Wenighösbach runs parallel to the road and is particularly suitable for outings with a stroller or inline skates. Separate from this is the route from Hösbach-Bahnhof towards Steiger and Weyberhöfe, which is especially suitable for cycling. Hiking, jogging, walking and cycling are described as activities you can enjoy in Hösbach without a car. The Waldschwimmbad Rottenberg is an outdoor swimming pool and a place to meet for sports, relaxation and leisure activities together.
