Nature and Trails
The Bärenbach circular trail is a 9.7-kilometre moderately difficult hike with 227 metres of ascent and descent. The 11.8-kilometre Staufeneck Loop has 286 metres of ascent and 285 metres of descent. At the Geißrücken, it leads through native beech forests and includes a tower lookout point with lines of sight ranging from Teck to Hohenstaufen and, in good conditions, as far as the Stuttgart TV Tower.
Staufeneck Castle can be reached by hikers and cyclists via several routes. As a landmark of Salach that is visible from afar, its keep offers views over Salach and the Filstal valley.
Culture and History
The building known as the Schottschule is more than 100 years old and now houses Salach Town Hall. The well-preserved Schachenmayr workers’ settlement can be visited. The Bärenbach Chapel contains two Late Gothic small sculptures: a Pietà and Saint Anne with the Virgin and Child. Both stand in niches in front of the chancel arch.
The historic area around St. Margaret’s Church contains valuable wall frescoes. Salach also has local civic associations dedicated to historic firefighting technology and the organ of St. Margaret’s Church.
Staufeneck, Dining and Leisure
Burghotel Staufeneck offers a wellness area with a heated infinity pool and views over the Filstal valley above Salach. The castle restaurant at the Staufeneck ruins is associated with fine dining. Salach has traditional restaurants and cosy pubs.
For summer leisure activities, the Schachenmayr outdoor pool has sports and children’s pools as well as a large play and sunbathing lawn.
Cycle Paths and Getting There
The Göppingen district has twelve fully signposted tourist cycling routes. Salach is served by regional train connections, supplemented by bus services.
